I’m developing OrbisNet, an Android communication application built around the decentralized Nostr protocol.

The goal is to provide messaging, social features and encrypted voice/video communication without depending on a traditional centralized backend.

SECURITY

The application uses several security layers:

• NIP-44 encrypted messaging

• ChaCha20-Poly1305 authenticated encryption

• BIP-340 Schnorr signatures

• secp256k1

• Android KeyStore / TEE

• Local encrypted database

• PBKDF2-based encrypted backups

• SHA-256 APK integrity verification

• Local-only AI processing

Private conversations are encrypted before being transmitted through Nostr relays.

NETWORK ARCHITECTURE

OrbisNet does not rely on a single central messaging server.

The application communicates with Nostr relays through secure WebSockets.

Voice/video calls use WebRTC for the media connection, while Nostr is used for signaling.

This means the application can work with different Nostr relays rather than being tied to a single proprietary messaging backend.
